Fuel Transparency Board Raises Oil and Fuel Product Prices in Albania

Albania’s Fuel Transparency Board has announced a new increase in the domestic retail price of diesel and other petroleum products, effective April 3, 2026.

The board set the maximum retail price of diesel (SSH EN 590 standard) at 224 lekë per liter, up from previous levels, while the wholesale cap is 212 lekë per liter. Meanwhile, gasoline prices have been capped at 181 lekë per liter retail and 169 lekë wholesale.

This decision comes as authorities simultaneously implemented a 20 % reduction in excise duty and a 9.5 lekë cut in VAT, aiming to soften the blow of rising global oil market costs.

The new price ceilings take effect at 20:00 on April 3 and will remain in force until the next Transparency Board meeting.

Government ministries — including the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy — have stressed consumer protection and fair competition in the market as key priorities amid ongoing price volatility.

Analysts note that regional and global oil price pressures, influenced by conflict in the Middle East and tensions impacting shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, continue to affect fuel costs across the Balkans and Europe, making policy responses critical for households and businesses alike.
