Deputy Minister of Transport Kaltrina Zekolli stated that works are ongoing across all segments of Corridor VIII, with a clear commitment to ensure full connectivity with Albania. The highway is expected to link through Struga, making it a critical نقطة for cross-border mobility and trade in the Balkans.

The total cost of the project is estimated at €1.3 billion. According to Zekolli, €500 million has already been disbursed to the consortium Bechtel and Enka, while over €90 million has been allocated for 2026 alone. She added that a budget revision could be considered if additional funding becomes necessary.

Regarding the Trebenishtë–Qafëthanë segment, authorities are awaiting input from UNESCO due to heritage considerations in the area. A final report is expected in June, after which alternative solutions will be evaluated. Despite potential adjustments, officials insist that the connection with Albania will be completed, with Struga fully integrated into the corridor.

Corridor VIII remains a strategic priority for the Balkans, aiming to boost economic integration, infrastructure development, and regional connectivity.
