A 19-year-old Albanian girl, identified as Myrto, has died in Argostoli, Kefalonia, after a night in a hotel room, with Greek authorities arresting three young men in connection with the case.
According to police and Greek media reports, the incident occurred in Argostoli, where the victim was staying with three individuals aged 26, 23, and 22. Authorities say the young woman suffered cardiac arrest, allegedly linked to cocaine use. Greece’s Health Minister confirmed she arrived at the hospital in critical condition with minimal signs of life, and despite immediate medical intervention, doctors were unable to save her.
Investigations indicate that after her condition worsened and she lost consciousness, the suspects failed to call emergency services. Instead, they allegedly transported her outside and left her in a public area, later claiming they had found her there. Surveillance footage reportedly shows one of the suspects carrying her unconscious body out of the building, while the others remained nearby pretending to be bystanders when the ambulance arrived.
Prosecutors in Greece have charged the three suspects with negligent homicide by omission and drug-related offenses. Evidence suggests coordinated actions, including attempts to clean the hotel room and conceal key evidence such as the victim’s phone.
The case has sparked strong reactions across Greece and the Balkans, raising concerns about drug use and responsibility in emergency situations, particularly among young people, including communities connected to Albania and Kosovo.
