Albanian State Police Suspend Seven Officers Over Drug Cultivation Case in Peqin

The case, uncovered on March 19, 2026, involves the cultivation of narcotic plants in two indoor facilities in central Albania. Authorities determined that the officers failed to enforce legal provisions during their duties, leading to immediate suspension measures for “open non-enforcement of the law.”

The suspended officers are Commissioner Altin Gusho, Commissioner Danjel Kacaniku, Deputy Commissioner Sefer Dushku, Inspector Muharrem Zylyfi, Deputy Commissioner Bilbil Lita, Commissioner Denis Sinani, and Inspector Arben Koseni. According to official statements, the decision was taken in line with the regulations of the Albanian State Police following documented violations during operational activities.

The Directorate of Professional Standards has launched a comprehensive disciplinary investigation under the order of the General Director of the State Police. The probe aims to determine legal responsibilities within local police structures responsible for preventing and combating drug-related crime in the area.

This development highlights ongoing concerns over law enforcement accountability in Albania and the wider Balkans, particularly in the fight against cannabis cultivation. Strengthening internal oversight remains a key priority as Albania continues efforts to align with European standards and improve institutional transparency.
