The event, held in the capital and scheduled to run for three days until April 15, was opened with the message “Welcome home,” as President Begaj addressed representatives of the global Albanian diaspora. He highlighted that the summit brings together the “family” of Albanians after a year-long cycle of cooperation and dialogue.

He underlined the growing importance of the diaspora not only as a source of remittances but as a strategic partner in investment and long-term development. According to Begaj, financial transfers focused solely on consumption are giving way to a new approach where diaspora savings are directed into productive sectors such as energy, tourism, agriculture, technology, and innovation.

He also stressed the importance of preserving national identity and the Albanian language among younger generations abroad, noting that the diaspora vote has now become a reality, strengthening political representation for Albanians living outside the country. He connected these efforts to Albania’s broader goal of EU membership by 2030, calling for deeper integration between the state and diaspora networks.

The summit, which gathers policymakers, economists, scientists, and cultural figures from across the Albanian world, aims to strengthen sustainable ties between Albania and its global diaspora and transform cooperation into concrete development projects.

Begaj described the Albanian nation as a “heart that beats wherever there is an Albanian,” reinforcing the idea that national identity extends beyond borders. He called for stronger investment in Albanian language education, cultural centres, and professional networks abroad to ensure younger generations maintain a living connection with their homeland. The President also reiterated that the diaspora should be fully integrated into national systems and long-term strategies, rather than being seen only as an external community. The Summit in Tirana continues until April 15, bringing together participants from politics, business, science, and the arts.
