The Elbasan Police have arrested a 52-year-old man suspected of violently stealing a handbag containing cash from a 66-year-old woman. The arrest was carried out as part of the police operation codenamed “Identification.”
The arrested individual, identified by the initials G. F., is a resident of Elbasan.
According to police reports, the incident occurred yesterday at around 09:00, in the “Visarion Xhuvani” neighborhood. The suspect allegedly attacked the woman on the street and forcibly stole her handbag, which contained a sum of money, a mobile phone, and personal documents. As a result of the assault, the 66-year-old victim suffered minor injuries to her arm.
In an official statement, police said that immediately after receiving the report of the robbery, officers from the Elbasan Police Commissariat organized intensive efforts to identify and bring the perpetrator to justice. Through the review of security camera footage and investigative actions, police were able to identify and locate the suspect.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, police recovered the stolen handbag, which was seized as material evidence.
Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether G. F. may be involved in other similar thefts.
The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecution Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Elbasan for further legal action.
