| Two Chinese Nationals Arrested in Albania for Massive Postal Scam — Fake Website Mimicking Albanian Post Exposed |
According to the official police report, the two suspects created an identical clone of the official Albanian Post website. Their goal was to trick users into revealing their personal and banking information. The fraudulent platform appeared highly convincing, copying logos, design, and structure to exploit users' trust.
🔍 Police Operation “Fake Post” Details
The Directorate of Cyber Crime Investigation, in cooperation with the Operational Directorate of the State Police and guided by the Tirana District Prosecutor’s Office, launched an intensive investigation following multiple citizen complaints.
Victims had received SMS messages and emails that appeared to originate from the Albanian Post, directing them to a malicious link requesting banking details or identity documents.
After extensive technical and operational work, authorities managed to track down and arrest the two suspects in the capital. A search of their residence revealed a large quantity of electronic and identification equipment used for their operations.
📱 Evidence Seized
During the police raid, officers confiscated:
17 mobile phones used for communication and managing the fraud.
1 laptop containing the cloned website and stolen user data.
12 passports, 11 bank cards, 7 identity cards, and 1 driving license.
Cash in various foreign currencies.
The evidence points to a well-organized cyber fraud network, potentially connected to other international cybercriminal groups.
⚖️ Legal Proceedings
The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Tirana Judicial District Court. The two arrested individuals face charges for the following criminal offenses:
"Computer Fraud"
"Unauthorized Access to Computer Data"
"Computer Forgery"
⚠️ Police Warning to the Public: How to Protect Yourself!
The State Police of Albania has issued a public warning urging citizens to remain extremely vigilant regarding online messages, especially those that request personal or financial information. Cybercriminals often use fake websites that closely resemble legitimate platforms to deceive the public.
Key Safety Recommendations:
Do not click on suspicious links sent via SMS, email, or social media.
Never share your personal details, card numbers, PINs, or passwords on non-official sites.
Verify the website address carefully before performing any online action.
Immediately report suspicious messages or fraudulent websites to the State Police or the Directorate of Cyber Crime Investigation.
📈 A Growing Trend in Cyber Frauds
In recent years, Albania, like many other European countries, has seen a rise in phishing scams targeting citizens. Criminals often impersonate trusted organizations (banks, telecom operators, postal services) and create a sense of urgency—for example, notifying users about a supposed parcel delivery issue—to pressure them into revealing sensitive information.
This case highlights the urgent need for digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness among the public.
🤝 Public Cooperation Encouraged
The State Police encourages all citizens who may have responded to the fraudulent messages or entered their data on suspicious websites to report the incident immediately to the Cyber Crime Investigation Directorate. Prompt reporting is crucial to preventing further damage.
The successful completion of Operation “Fake Post” demonstrates Albania’s growing capacity to combat cybercrime and serves as a strong warning to criminal groups.
