Extradition from Italy: Amarildo Luca
From Italy, authorities extradited a 29-year-old man, Amarildo Luca, accused by the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) for aiding illegal migration to the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
Luca, born in Dibër, had been declared wanted after GJKKO imposed the security measure of “prison arrest” for the criminal offense of “Assistance in illegal border crossing”, committed in cooperation during the years 2022–2024.
Extradition from Germany: Francesko Berisha
From Germany, a 20-year-old man, Francesko Berisha, was extradited to Albania. Berisha, born in Tirana, had been convicted twice for theft in the capital.
In 2021, the Tirana Court sentenced him to eight months in prison, and in 2024, he received an additional six-month sentence for the same criminal offense of “Theft”.
Facing Justice in Albania
Both citizens are now in Albania, where they will face justice for the criminal offenses they have been accused of. This development highlights the ongoing efforts of Albanian institutions, in close collaboration with European counterparts, to ensure that fugitives are brought to justice.
Key Takeaway
The extradition of Amarildo Luca and Francesko Berisha demonstrates the importance of international cooperation, particularly between Interpol Tirana, Italian, and German authorities, in strengthening the rule of law and combating organized crime.
