According to the latest Eurobarometer on EU Enlargement, Albania tops the list of candidate countries with the most positive perception of the Union. The country is followed by Montenegro with 83% support, while the European Commission has already signaled optimism for both Albania and Montenegro to potentially join the EU by 2029.

Other countries in the region also showed strong support for EU integration. Kosovo ranks third with 82%, followed by North Macedonia at 67%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 56%. Citizens in these nations associate EU membership with improved living standards, freedom of movement across borders, and stronger economic development, alongside assistance in combating corruption.

By contrast, Serbia remains the most skeptical country in the region, with only 33% of its citizens in favor of EU membership.

Looking beyond the Balkans, the survey also highlighted high levels of support in Georgia (74%) and Ukraine (68%), both of which see EU membership as a guarantee of stability and prosperity.

The Eurobarometer did not stop at candidate states. The survey also covered all 27 EU member states, reflecting the views of over 26,300 citizens. It found that 56% of EU citizens support further enlargement, though concerns remain over migration, corruption, organized crime, and the financial cost of expanding the bloc.

According to EU officials, the findings send a clear message: candidate countries want a credible enlargement process based on shared values and genuine reforms
