The latest court session concerning the abduction and murder of Jan Prenga has centered on encrypted communications extracted from the Sky ECC platform, which have been submitted as evidence by Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK).
So far, SPAK has presented three Sky ECC code identifications related to suspects Dritan Rexhepi, Altin Hajri, and Gentian Funiqi. None of these suspects have appeared personally in court, with all being represented by their legal counsel.
During the hearing, defense lawyers raised questions regarding the completeness of the communication records and whether additional messages from the prosecution are expected. Lawyer Joana Qeleshi specifically requested clarification on whether the submitted Sky ECC communications are complete or partial.
In response, Prosecutor Elida Kaçkini stated that the communications presented so far are those specifically relevant to the Jan Prenga case. While acknowledging that the messages come from broader investigations, she emphasized that only material linked to this case has been submitted. “These are electronic communications that pertain directly to the case,” Kaçkini noted, also confirming there are currently no new records to present.
Prosecutor Behar Dibra added that several international letters rogatory have been sent to obtain additional data and communication logs from foreign authorities for other suspects. He reassured the court that, “the communications are complete for this case,” but confirmed that SPAK is working to collect more evidence for other individuals potentially involved.
The court also discussed the involvement of Astrit Prenga and Gezim Shullani, who are to be questioned via video conference. A letter from British authorities emphasized the need for more detailed location information for these two individuals, beyond the vague reference to "London, England."
As the trial proceeds, the handling of encrypted Sky ECC data remains central to the investigation, with the defense insisting on transparency about how comprehensive and contextual the messages really are. The case continues to develop as both sides push for clarity and accountability in one of Albania's most high-profile criminal proceedings, local media say.
