Heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning has led to severe flooding in Albania’s major coastal cities, Durrës and Vlorë, disrupting daily life and sparking frustration among residents.

Vlorë Struggles with Persistent Flooding
In Vlorë, roads have been overtaken by water, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to move. Residents describe the situation as a recurring problem, demanding urgent action from local authorities.
"This happens every time it rains. We pay taxes, but what do we get? Just look at the streets. It barely rained for 10 seconds, and everything is underwater. Where is the mayor? What is he doing? This has been going on for 20 years," complained one resident.
Another local sarcastically suggested, “At least they should leave us some rubber boats for the elderly, because we can manage. Vlorë turns into a river with just a little rain.”
Durrës Also Faces Severe Flooding
Meanwhile, Durrës, another key coastal city, has also been hit by heavy floods, leaving streets submerged and temporarily paralyzing movement. Major areas near the Port of Durrës, Liria Square, and the peripheral neighborhoods of Plazh and Spitallë have been heavily affected.
Floodwaters have blocked key roads, making it difficult for both pedestrians and vehicles to navigate through the city. The recurring issue has once again raised concerns over infrastructure and drainage systems in Albania’s coastal cities.
As residents in both Durrës and Vlorë struggle to cope with the floods, many are calling for immediate intervention and long-term solutions to prevent such disruptions in the future.
