Sami Musa is the first MP of Albanian origin in Hamburg, Germany. He became part of the parliament after winning the trust of the citizens in the 2020 elections. Many Albanians trusted the vote of their compatriot. Sami Musa has previously told "Albanian Diaspora" that his experience in Hamburg institutions dates back much earlier, as he from 2014 to 2019 served as a councilor in the Municipality.

While today Musa has announced that he is now officially part of the German Democrats.

"Officially in the liberal family. Looking forward to future cooperation. Many thanks to the President of the FDP Hamburg, Michael Kruse, for the trust given. For the freedom and the right to opportunity - a strong central policy," Musa wrote on his Facebook page.

German media write that the Free Democratic Party (FDP) of Hamburg has doubled its number of deputies with one blow: Sami Musa, a member of the SPD parliamentary group until October, joined the Liberals on Monday.

"I have been intensively involved with the FDP and its policy for a long time. I feel connected to the Free Democrats in terms of the program and after the first talks I quickly felt calm personally", says the new FDP politician Sami Musa for the German media.

As a "full-blooded restorer," the 37-year-old feels indebted to the economy - and calls on Hamburg politicians to develop "smarter plans," to protect our companies, and to secure the economic power of our city. A social policy "that promotes the individual and at the same time guarantees opportunities for all, regardless of their origin" is important for the former Social Democrat.

Sami Musa was a member of the SPD since 2009. Between 2014 and 2019, Musa sat in the Harburg district assembly, and in 2020 he was able to take office. At the end of September, he left the party and shortly afterward left the parliamentary group. "I have an obligation to the citizens I represent. They have the right to me to constructively and actively support their concerns. This would not be possible at the moment for various reasons, including personal ones", wrote Sami Musa on his Facebook page.
