Portuguese police have cracked down on the Albanian mafia operating in this country. Police authorities have seized hashish worth 34 million euros. The Albanian-made traffic network was hit by Portuguese police as it prepared to transport about 7 tonnes of hashish from Albufeira to Spain.

According to Portuguese media, the leader of the gang is a 44-year-old Albanian who runs a truck company. He and his wife reportedly used the truck's transportation point to traffic drugs to various European countries.

The Algarve coast in Portugal was used as a dumping point for drugs arriving by boat from Morocco to be later distributed to European countries.
