The National Council of the Territory approved on Wednesday (November 24th) a series of permits, including some closely related to tourism, transport, and energy.

Thus, the development permit for Vlora International Airport was approved in more detail. This airport will be built in the area of Akernia by the consortium Mabatex Construction & YDA group which has won the right of concession.

The value of the investment for this project is 103 million euros while it is foreseen that the airport will be built for a period of 4 years divided into two phases; the first phase with a capacity of up to 400 thousand passengers and, in a second phase with a capacity of up to 1.2 million passengers per year.

Due to the mountainous terrain, although it covers an area of only 28,000 square kilometers, Albania is fragmented in terms of transport, so the construction of airports or any investment related to transport is a must. So far the country has 2 civilian airports and it is expected that two more will be built within 5 years.
