Tried "American Lottery" with a fake diploma, prison to the 40-year-old Albanian

The submission of a falsified high school diploma in the American lottery documents not just burned the American dream of a 40-year-old man from Gjirokastra, but also cost him a prison sentence in the Tirana Court.

Marsel Mera was found guilty of "falsifying school documents" and sentenced to 4 months in prison. His case was discovered by the Diplomatic Security Service at the US Embassy in Tirana, during the filtering of documents submitted by the 40-year-old as the winner of the US lottery.

The serial number of the diploma belonged to another person in the registers of the Memaliaj gymnasium, from where it was claimed that the school certificate had been issued. The case was referred by the American Embassy to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.

During the investigation, the 40-year-old admitted that he had not completed high school and that he was aware that the diploma was forged, but it was his great desire to travel to the United States of America that made him surrender.

He told investigators that the diploma was bought by his father in 2004 for a sum of 4,500 leks. The 40-year-old was tried without security measures and although he was sentenced to prison he did not go to the cell. According to the TIMS system, he turned out to have left Albania in September, but certainly not to America.
