Albanian army Major Xhevahir Jazaj loses his life in Afghanistan


 The Major of the Albanian Army, Xhevahir Jazaj, on a mission operating in Afghanistan, in the area of ​​Herat, under the Italian command, lost his life on Tuesday evening, at 22:40 local time in Afghanistan.

In its announcement, the Ministry of Defense does not provide any details on the event, explaining only that "the authorities of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces are cooperating with the operation command to conduct a full investigation of the circumstances of his death”.

In a Facebook status the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi wrote that "the death of a military man, especially on a mission away from the homeland, is a painful event for everyone". He announced that he had “direct communication with the Albanian contingent serving in Herat and Kabul. I shared with them the condolences for the loss of their friend and assured them that all Albanians are with their minds and hearts close to them. They are our pride in relation to our NATO allies and our strategic partners, the US and the EU, with whom we share common challenges of collective defense, peace, and security."

In 2012, also in Afghanistan, an Albanian army officer, Feti Vogli, was killed after a sudden attack in Kandahar, on the American-Albanian unit.

While in 2019, two other servicemen, Major Klodian Tanushi and Lieutenant Zarife Hasanaj lost their lives at a NATO base in Latvia, while clearing an area from shells used during the training of multinational forces.
