Italian Foreign Minister, DI Maio: Albanian doctors injected enthusiasm, EU countries apologized to me

Blendi Fevziu and Luigi Di Maio in a network interview
Italy's Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio spoke to the Opinion show of the journalist Blendi Fevziu broadcasted by TV Klan relating to the 30 Albanian doctors and nurses sent to Italy. Di Maio said sending Albanian health care workers to Italy had a positive impact on the neighboring country, sparking enthusiasm.

“You have no idea of ow injecting, encouraging, enthusiastic there were here thanks to the images of the arrival of doctors and nurses from Albania and the charismatic speech of Prime Minister Edi Rama, which made many Italian citizens excited in a positive sense. Because discussing shared values is an argument that speaks of solidarity and friendship between peoples, and as Pope Francis said a few days ago, no one can escape this crisis alone. I believe that Albania, the Albanian people and the words of Prime Minister Rama represent the European value of solidarity that some may have forgotten. But as I said when doctors and nurses arrived, this value has been well represented in the Albanian people, in the spirit of Albania and in the Albanian government,” Di Maio said.

Di Maio also commented on Europe's behavior with Italy regarding the coronavirus situation. He said states blocking masks and ventilators have apologized, while Germany is now opening its hospitals to Italian patients.

“We as a government want to spend all the money needed to help our people, our businesses, our workers, our young people, our elderly, our unemployed. And I believe that, as never before, at this moment a spirit of unity is needed, only in unity will we be able to be saved. Then I can tell you, at the moment when we were talking about Germany our patients were waiting in our hospitals, medical supplies from other European hospitals arrived, we had solidarity and support from some European Union countries as well. Even those who blocked our masks and ventilators in their customs called me and apologized. So I believe Europe is in an important test of economic and financial policies because they are the ones that will allow us to help our young people not emigrate but to continue living and working in our countries,” Di Maio said.

Di Maio stated further that the curve of the infected is stable.

"I believe that now these days, our scientists are telling us that the contamination curve is stable, and we're talking about 15 or 20 days from the moment when President Conte decided to completely shut down the Italian system to allow the contamination to slow down. So we are hopeful and above all we trust our scientific community. As a minister I am in the service of doctors, nurses, socio-sanitary workers, our university docents who follow the technical-scientific committee because they are in the front line in what Rama considered a real war”, said the Italian Minister.
