A prison employee in North Mitrovica infected with coronavirus

A Serb national prison employee in North Mitrovica, Kosovo, has been infected with the new coronavirus, and seven others have similar symptoms, confirmed the head of the North Mitrovica Crisis Staff, Aleksandar Spiric, who is also president of the Provisional body of the Municipality of Mitrovica, which operates within the Serbian system.

Radio Free Europe says that the infected is a medical worker in the North Mitrovica prison.

"The staff will be tested by the Pristina team by the end of the day, as it is about the prison service," Spiric said, stressing that the situation in northern Kosovo is very worrying, especially in North Mitrovica.

He called on anyone who had any contact with people at a wedding on March 14 to report if they had any symptoms of the disease.

He said that if citizens behave irresponsibly, there could be major consequences in North Mitrovica.

The North Mitrovica Institute of Public Health, which operates under the Serbian system, tested 25 patients, 10 of whom are awaiting results, and two came out positive for coronavirus.

The samples were analyzed at the Torlak Institute in Belgrade.

The health system in Serbian communities in Kosovo operates within the Serbian system, and outside the Kosovo health system.

The day before, the Kosovo Ministry of Health had said that they were not able to monitor the situation in Serbian environments because the competent institutions from those environments operating in the Serbian system did not inform Pristina of positive cases of COVID-19.
