 Italy remains the main destination were Albanians and foreigners fly fro Mother Teresa Airport of Rinas. The Civil Aviation Authority announced in its September newsletter that companies flying to Italy, such as Air Albania, Albawings, Blue Panorama, Ernest, Alitalia, have the largest share in the air transport market for September 2019, with a passenger count of 174,021 and 51% of the total.

Referring to official data provided to the Civil Aviation Authority by Mother Teresa International Airport, the figures show a total of 340,282 passengers who traveled to/from TIA during September, of which 48,656 are Charter flight passengers.

Based on the following data in September 2019 the Italian company Blue Panorama owns 16% of the total market and a total of 54,459 passengers, followed by Ernest Airlines with 15% of the market with 49,504 passengers.

Charter flights hold 14% of the market for this month. In terms of charter flights, part of the calculation is not the number of Pegasus Airlines (20) 's 7,438 passengers, which operates charter flights to Antalya. So together, the total number of passengers for charter flights is even higher, thus accounting for 15% of the market with a figure of 52,019 passengers.

Increases passenger traffic by 14%

Compared to September of the previous year, where the number consisted of 125,986 passengers, the figures have increased after the Albanian company Air Albania entered the market with three new destinations. If we compare the last three years, the air traffic and passenger flow this year, in September there is a 14% increase compared to last year.

Wizz Air with the highest growth

Concerning the increase/decrease of passenger traffic in September 2017-2018-2019, we note that Wizz Air has the highest growth in the market, by 140%, compared to the same period last year. Followed by Lufthansa, which recorded an 89% increase in passenger numbers compared to a year earlier. Charter flights also increased by 5%.

Airlines that had the most delays in September-October from Tirana Airport

The Civil Aviation Authority has announced that based on data recorded by the Passenger Rights Sector of the Civil Aviation Authority, for the period September - October 2019, it results that the performance of some airlines in terms of delays and cancellations was:

✈ ERNEST SPA during September-October 2019 has suffered 26 delays in over 2 hours and 2 cancellations. It is worth noting that Ernest Airlines has the highest number of delays for October 2019 due to aircraft technical defects (AOG) and operational reasons (delays in arriving from other flights).

✈ ADRIA AIRWAYS during September 2019 resulted in 21 cancellations due to its announced bankruptcy in September 2019.

✈ BLUE PANORAMA for October 2019 has only 1 delay in over 2 hours due to the strike of controllers at the Italian airports.

✈ WIZZ AIR during September-October 2019 results in 5 delays in over 2 hours.

✈ ALBAWINGS during September-October 2019 results in 3 delays in over 2 hours.

✈ LUFTHANSA during September-October 2019 results in 2 delays in over 2 hours and 2 cancellations.

✈ BRITISH AIRWAYS during September - October 2019 results in 1 delay of over 2 hours and 3 cancellations.

✈ AUSTRIAN AIRLINES during September 2019 results in 2 delays in over 2 hours.

How to complain

The CAA calls on all passengers who have completed the complaint forms and has six weeks have passed to contact again the airline companies to know their flight status.
