EC decision does not close Albania's door, Vasak: Emmanuel Macron backs Albania

French Ambassador to Albania Christina Vasak said today from Elbasan that the decision to not open accession negotiations with the European Union does not close Albania's door.

"The European Council's decision does not closed Albania's door. It is a solemn decision, but it is not the definitive closing of the doors for Albania because an ongoing meeting will be held during the Zagreb Summit. The Zagreb summit is important because Croatia will assume the presidency in the Council of Europe," Vasak said.

The ambassador said that “we need to have something clear that not only Croatia, but all European Community states will play a role in this decision. We have to have a unanimous decision."

“This meeting is essential to discuss the evolution of Albania's future and other contending countries. The French President Emmanuel Macron made it clear their support for Albania and all other countries seeking to open negotiations."
