12 people arrested in Bosnia for match-fixing

Referees and football officials are among 12 people arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina on suspicion of involvement in match-fixing.

A statement released by the Bosnian Prosecutor's Office says the suspects face charges of organized crime, bribery and abuse of power. According to the same, they are involved in "seeking and receiving gifts and other benefits" to adjust the results of matches during the 2018-19 season.

Police said they have arrested 12 people and raided five locations in Monday's operation. They said they have confiscated cell phones and other items that could serve as evidence in the investigation.

The Bosnian Football Federation said it fully supports the investigation and is ready to assist in any way it can. The federation added that the damage done was "inexcusable".
