Edi Rama refuses any responsibility for the EU's negative decision on Albania

Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has relinquished all of his and his government's responsibility for the negative decision of the Summit of European Union leaders to open negotiations with Albania.

At a press conference, following the negative decision of EU leaders, Rama said that Albania has done its best, but the positive decision was missing because of the "internal reasons" of EU member states.

Rama has used France's veto as a condolence, calling for reform of the European Union's enlargement process.

"France refuses to go through the same process, they want internal reform of the EU and the integration process, to the point of achieving another objective," he said.

According to Rama, the negative decision is a consequence of the lack of consensus within the EU and not because of the failure of Albania to meet the criteria set by the EU.

"The leaders of today's European Union...have made it very clear to the Commissioner for Enlargement that of what happened is a result of the Member States failing to reach consensus on their own reasons, and of course, then they "add tails" to what is essential, not the asylum seekers, not that..., not that...,” Rama said.

The Albanian Prime Minister has said that despite the EU's negative decision, Albania will continue to meet the conditions set by the German Parliament.

Rama has excluded himself and the government he manages from any responsibility for the EU leaders' negative decision. He has rejected the possibility of seeking a vote of confidence in the Albanian Parliament. He even said a cynical response to a question from reporters whether he would seek a vote of confidence.

"I can ask this to the French Parliament, I do not have to ask this to the Albanian Parliament, but I cannot ask this to the French Parliament," Rama said.

On this occasion, the Albanian Prime Minister has sought numerous causes for the stalemate to the EU, digging through distant and closer histories. He has also used various figures to avoid journalists' direct responses to his responsibility.
