After failing with Turkish companies, the government has again returned to the Vlora airport construction project.

Albcontrol, the public air traffic management company, has opened a $ 2 million tender in order to select the company that will develop the air navigation master plan at the Vlora airport.

According to the documents submitted to the public procurement agency, in addition to the navigation master plan, the company will also conduct a feasibility study for the Vlora International Airport, which is expected to be built in the Akërnia area.

Albctonrol's tender is the first step towards building the airport, a promise Prime Minister Edi Rama launched in February 2017 during a meeting with the Turkish President Erdogan in Turkey.

Less than a year after the meeting, in January 2018, an offer from the Turkish company led by Cengiz Construction for the construction of the Vlora airport in concession arrived at the ministry of infrastructure. But after months of negotiations, the Turkish companies withdrew from the project due to disputes with the government over financial matters.

In April this year, the infrastructure ministry confirmed officially the failure of negotiations with Turkish companies but said the project would continue and the government would open an international tender for the construction of the Vlora Airport.

Confidential sources say to Oculus News that after the failure of negotiations with the Turks, an Italian group has shown interest in building the airport. However, it is not yet known what the new construction formula will be.
