Two police officers arrested in Albania for allowing cannabis cultivation

 Police said they arrested two police officers in the city of Fier accused of allowing marijuana cultivation in some rural areas of Fier. According to police, "the arrest of two police officers was done after abusing with their duty, allegedly favoring different residents of these villages for the cultivation of narcotic plants in exchange of financial benefits."

Police said the Operation "Cakrani 2019" for the identification and disposal of some parcels sown with narcotic plants resulted in the arrest of five other people. The Fier First Instance Court ruled on Thursday the detention for the detainees, including the chief of Cakran village in Fier. Police said had tracked some plants planted with narcotic plants while dozens of marijuana seedlings were found in the apartments of the arrested.

The marijuana cultivation continues to be widespread in Albania. Criminal groups continue to exploit broken terrains near water areas to plant narcotic plants. Currently, it is the planting stage of seedlings in these areas and police have launched operational actions combining information with air monitoring.
