The road that connects the cities of Gjakova and Tropoja, consequently Kosovo with Albania, is today named after the US lawmaker Eliot Engel.

The inauguration of the road became a sign of gratitude for his continued commitment to the Albanian issue in the Balkans.

Engel, who also has been declared an honorary citizen of Tropoja, said he will continue to be always a friend of Albanians and work for their own good.

"It's a really special honor when something gets your name and you're alive to see it because when you die is wonderful, but you can not see it. Let me thank my friends, Harry Bajraktari and Rrustem Geci, and others that have familiarized me with the wonderful Albanian people. I tell friends in Washington and New York that they can travel anywhere around the world by being an American, but that nowhere will be treated as well as by our Albanian friends," he said.

Lawmaker Engel is staying in the region on a few days' visit during which he was in Belgrade and the Presevo Valley while on Thursday evening attending the inauguration of the US Embassy building in Pristina.
