Italian politics shaken, 43 arrested including politicians
 

 The Italian anti-mafia held a mega-operation, executing 43 arrest warrants, including politicians, public officials and entrepreneurs of the country.  Out of 43 arrest warrants, 12 were left in jail, 16 in "house arrest" and 15 others with partial freedom

The operation took place in the Italian provinces of Milan, Varese, Monza, Brianza, Pavia, Novara, Alessandria, Turin and Asti. The Italian anti-mafia destroyed thus two mafia organizations, with bases in Milan and Varese. The group is composed of politicians and officials of local importance, their accusations being related to mafia activity with the aim of financing political parties, abuse of public tenders, billing of unexecuted financial operations, money recycling and abuse of office.

Among the arrested are also the candidate of the Forza Italia party in the upcoming European elections of May 26, Pietro Tatarella, the Under Secretary of Forza Italia for the Lombardy region Fabio Altitonante, the current deputy of Forza Italia Diego Sozzari and the head of Forza Italia in the city of Varese Giocacchino Caianello. They are accused of illegal activities and corruption.
