Motion against Albanians by Netherland Parliament to be voted for free movement ban

A group of 4 MPs of the Dutch Parliament have drafted a motion for the ban of the travel of free movement of Albanian citizens in the Schengen area.

On April 11, the Dutch Parliament had debated on this motion, providing majority support. Now, Parliament will ask the Dutch government to propose to the European Commission the launch of a so-called "withdrawal procedure", which allows the suspension of free movement.

The motion was deposited by the Christian Democrat MP, Madeleine van Toorenburg, and 3 others, Jeroen van Wijngaarden, Jasper van Dijk, and Nico Drost.

Their justification is that this move comes as an effort in the wake of the fight against organized crime. The motion will be voted on April 16th.

Van Toorenburg claims in its arguments that in the Netherlands there are six times more Albanians than are officially registered. The proponents of this have noted the fact that there has been a significant increase, according to them, of criminal activities by the Albanian mafia in the Netherlands.

"These criminal organizations are abusing the possibility of traveling across Europe without visas, extending  thus further their smuggling network."
