Electric Energy tariffs will not be reduced for 2019 in Albania according to Energy Regulatory Entity

The Energy Regulatory Entity (ERE) of Albania decided to keep unchanged the energy price for household customers and other retail customers who are supplied to the regulated market for 2019.

Citizens will continue to pay 9.5 lek per kilowatt hour (kWh); businesses 14 lek per kWh; while bakeries 7.6 lek per kWh.

In fact, the the Operator of Electric Energy Distribution (Alb: OSHEE) did not applyed for tariff changes, while the company itself is undergoing a restructuring within the framework of liberalization and is in a transitional phase.

It will operate on the market through 3 partner companies, which have received the necessary licenses. Two of them will be directly involved in relationships with household customers, one that will guarantee the supply while the other the supply and will be in charge of the technical issues.

The determination of the fee in the future will also depend on the cost that will come up by the service that each company offers. The third company owned by OSHEE is the supplier of the free-market, also controlled by OSHEE, which will deal with customers outside the regulated market.

Thanks to the good hydrological situation, OSHEE has realized profits to about lek 3.5 billion in 2018, but the company's financial situation and investment plan does not allow these profits to go for the reduction of tariffs.
