Wesley Clark: Russia, Turkey and China are playing the 'Balkan Game'

The US General Wesley Clark, who in an article on "The Washington Post" estimated that the Balkans could be land of the crisis, "this is why the US and the EU must react urgently, because the foreign powers are present in the region and creating stress and that what we know from history is that the Western Balkans is very fragile."

In an interview for Sarajevo's N1 television, Clark says harsh words and aggressive acts can lead to conflict in the Balkans faster than anywhere in the world.

"Yes, we must be worried. The Western Balkans should be pushed forward, into western civilization and transatlantic, even as soon as possible. It has been 23 years since the Dayton Accords have been signed and there is still much to do about the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I think this is not going in the right track," Clark said.

Clark was Commander of NATO Forces in Europe during the bombing of Serbia.

Speaking on the geopolitical scene in the Balkans and the role of Russia, Turkey and China, he said that these states "play the Balkan game".

"The Balkans is on the tectonic plate of the human race, this is the region where civilizations have historically been confronted, and are still being confronted. So it is the fair assessment that we should use NATO and provide military security," the US General said.

He added that much work must be done to fight corruption in government.

"This means that the elected members, as well as mandated members, have to live modestly, live with their wages, salaries should be enough to live well, but no one should expect to become a millionaire.
