European Union Delegation in Albania has welcomed the adoption of the judicial reform. In a press statement the EU has requested that its implementation to begin immediately.
The EU considers that the reform in justice will be a major contribution on the way to fight crime and corruption.
The full statement of the EU:Today the Assembly of the Republic of Albania unanimously adopted constitutional amendments which make provisions for a deep and comprehensive reform on judiciary.
We commend the Albanian people, their leaders and all political forces that showed maturity and responsibility in making this historic decision.
This step addresses an old request by the vast majority of citizens for a responsible, independent and transparent justice. It is also a contribution to the fight against corruption and organized crime. All these are key priorities for Albania's path towards EU integration.
Now it is important that the implementation of the reform to begin immediately, so that the Albanian people to have a justice system that is firmly based on European standards.
