Albania’s Honorary Consulate office inaugurated in Gjakova

  The office of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Albania in the city of Gjakova, western Kosovo, was officially inaugurated through a ceremony on Tuesday.

Albanian Foreign Affairs Minister Ditmir Bushati, Kosovo State Minister Edita Tahiri, Mayor of Gjakova Mimoza Kusari Lila, representatives from Kosovo’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Gjakova local government officials and foreign diplomats in Kosovo attended the ceremony.

At the latest joint governments meeting, Albania and Kosovo signed a special agreement on deepening the cross-border cooperation between the Commune of Gjakova and the Gjakova’s Highland.

The opening of the Consulate office will help in structuring the cooperation between Albania’s northern municipalities and the Commune of Gjakova with the aim of giving a fresh impetus to economic and trade, cultural and tourism exchanges and implementation of joint cross-border projects between the two countries.

In his remarks during the inauguration ceremony, Foreign Minister Bushati said the opening of the first Honorary Consulate office in Kosovo is of a great importance as a concrete indicator of the deepening inter-state cooperation between the two countries.

Bushati said he was pleased to name Tahir Emra, a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, as Albania’s Honorary Consul in Gjakova.
