Ballist Morina Gifts Erjon Vishkulli an “Autochthonous” Flag Shirt After Tirana Protest Injury

Erjon Vishkulli has received a symbolic gift from Ballist Morina, the Albanian known as the “Hero of Belgrade” following the famous drone incident during the Serbia–Albania football match in 2014.

In a Facebook post shared this morning, Vishkulli revealed that Morina had sent him a shirt featuring the “Autochthonous” flag, a symbol that became widely recognised among Albanian supporters after the incident at Belgrade’s Partizan Stadium.

The gift was accompanied by a handwritten message placed next to the shirt, dedicated personally to Vishkulli.

“For the autochthonous Erjon Vishkulli. May we have you as our KASTRIOT throughout our lives!” the message reads.

The reference to Kastriot evokes the historical figure of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, one of the most important symbols of Albanian national identity.

A Symbolic Gesture After Vishkulli’s Injury in Tirana

The gesture comes after Vishkulli suffered a serious eye injury during the protest in Tirana on October 24. Following the incident, he travelled to Rome, where he underwent surgery at the Gemelli Hospital.

The operation was successful, and doctors managed to save his eye, bringing a positive development after days of concern over the possibility of permanent damage to his vision.

Morina’s gift carries particular symbolic meaning because of the connection between the “Autochthonous” flag and his name. In October 2014, a drone carrying a banner with the inscription “Autochthonous” flew over the pitch during the Serbia–Albania match in Belgrade, triggering a major incident that attracted international attention.

Morina became widely known among Albanians as the “Hero of Belgrade” after the episode, which turned the banner into a powerful symbol for many Albanian football fans.

By sending Vishkulli the shirt with a personal message, Morina has expressed a gesture of support for the young man following his injury during the demonstrations in the Albanian capital.
