Albania’s Lara Colturi Makes History with Sölden World Cup Podium

SÖLDEN, Austria — Albanian ski sensation Lara Colturi has opened the 2026–2027 Alpine Ski World Cup season with an outstanding second-place finish in the women's giant slalom in Sölden, Austria, missing victory by just one hundredth of a second.

Representing Albania, Colturi finished in 2:14.83, narrowly behind American skier Paula Moltzan, who claimed her first World Cup victory with a time of 2:14.82. Germany's Emma Aicher completed the podium in third place, 0.52 seconds behind the winner.

A Remarkable Comeback in the Second Run

Colturi was sixth after the opening run but delivered a powerful second performance to climb into second place. Despite challenging weather conditions, including snowfall and reduced visibility, she maintained her composure and fought for victory until the very end.

The narrow margin between first and second made the result particularly dramatic. Just 0.01 seconds separated Colturi from the top of the podium, underlining how decisive the smallest fractions of a second can be in elite alpine skiing.

Another Proud Moment for Albania

Colturi's podium finish provides an excellent start to the new World Cup campaign and puts Albania in the spotlight on the international skiing stage.

Her performance is a source of pride for Albanian sports fans, who continue to follow her progress among the world's leading alpine skiers.

Although victory narrowly escaped her in Austria, Colturi has already demonstrated that she can compete at the highest level. Her second-place finish sends a strong message at the beginning of the season.

Congratulations to Lara Colturi on a superb performance. One hundredth of a second separated her from victory, but her achievement has given Albanian fans plenty of reasons to celebrate.
