1,300 Professors March Against Edi Rama, Announce Daily Protests Outside Prime Minister’s Office

TIRANA, Albania — Around 1,300 professors and academics gathered outside Tirana Polytechnic University before marching toward the Prime Minister’s Office, demanding the resignation of Edi Rama and announcing that their protests will continue every day at 10:00 a.m.

The demonstration marks a significant expansion of the growing protest movement, bringing members of Albania’s academic community into the streets to stand against the government.

The professors declared that they had nothing left to discuss with the prime minister, signaling that their patience with his government had reached its limit.

They also argued that Parliament had ceased to function normally, raising broader concerns about the state of the country’s democratic institutions.

Professors Take Their Protest to the Prime Minister’s Office

After gathering outside the Polytechnic University of Tirana, the academics marched along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard toward the Prime Minister’s Office.

As they arrived, chants demanding Rama’s departure and the resignation of his government echoed outside the building.

Their message was direct: they are no longer calling merely for dialogue, but for political change.

The professors’ decision to continue demonstrating daily at 10:00 a.m. signals their intention to maintain pressure on the government rather than allow the protest to fade after a single march.

A Growing Challenge to Edi Rama’s Government

The involvement of hundreds of professors and academics adds a new dimension to the protests, reinforcing the message that dissatisfaction extends beyond students and traditional political groups.

Educators have a particular role in society, and their participation places renewed attention on questions of democratic accountability, institutional functioning and the government's response to public dissent.

Their refusal to continue dialogue with Rama reflects a deepening political confrontation. Whether the government will respond to their demands remains to be seen.

For now, the professors have made their next move clear: they will return to the streets every morning at 10:00 a.m., directly outside the Prime Minister’s Office.

As the demonstrations continue, the central question facing Edi Rama is whether his government will address the protesters’ demands or allow the confrontation to deepen further.

Oculus News will continue to follow developments in Tirana as professors, students and other demonstrators press for political accountability and Rama’s resignation.
