Gostivar, North Macedonia — Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said that teams from the Skopje water utility are working in Gostivar to restore the city’s water supply system, expressing expectations that the water will soon be declared “technically suitable” for use.

“I expect today, although the results are already good, but let us be conservative. Let us say that tomorrow a statement will be published that the water is technically suitable for use, after it was fixed in a record time of one week,” Mickoski said.
The prime minister added that the government is taking all possible measures to address the situation and criticized the opposition for what he described as a lack of criticism toward the local authorities responsible for managing the crisis.
“What we can do as a Government, we are doing. And I am surprised that the opposition has still not come out with any criticism toward the municipality and the leadership they supported during the local elections,” Mickoski stated.
The water supply situation in Gostivar has drawn public attention in recent days, with authorities carrying out technical interventions and disinfection procedures aimed at restoring confidence in the safety of the city’s drinking water system.
Officials are expected to announce the final results of water quality tests before declaring whether residents can fully resume normal use of tap water.
