Rugova Sinani Reacts Strongly to Taulant Balla Over UÇK Document Mentioning Tahir Sinani

A public reaction from Rugova Sinani has sparked debate in Kosovo and Albanian political circles after she strongly criticized statements and published material linked to parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla, in which names of former UÇK fighters were reportedly mentioned, including that of her father, commander Tahir Sinani.

In her response on social media, Rugova Sinani expressed deep anger over what she described as an inappropriate and disrespectful reference to her father’s legacy. She stated that the manner in which his name was included in the document represents a serious insult to his contribution and sacrifice during the war in Kosovo.

She emphasized that Tahir Sinani is widely regarded as one of the prominent figures in the Albanian armed resistance and that his role in the liberation efforts should be treated with respect and historical responsibility. According to her, his legacy should not be placed in contexts that, in her view, distort or diminish his contribution.
Rugova Sinani further accused Taulant Balla of damaging the honor of a war figure and called for a public apology. She stressed that the family has experienced emotional distress following the publication and interpretation of the document.

In her statement, she also addressed the Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army, urging it to actively defend the dignity of war veterans and the families of fallen fighters, and to avoid allowing political disputes to affect historical narratives tied to the conflict.
“Nearly 25 years after my father fell as a martyr, experiencing such humiliation is extremely painful,” she stated, underlining that Tahir Sinani’s name remains respected among Albanians and should not become part of political disputes or institutional controversies.

The case has added further sensitivity to ongoing debates surrounding the documentation and interpretation of wartime figures, highlighting the continuing emotional and political weight these topics carry in the region.
