Germany on Albania's "Flamingo Revolution" Protests: Demonstrations Are an Internal Political Matter

As anti-government protests continue in Tirana and other parts of Albania, the German government has described the demonstrations as an internal political issue for the country.

Martin Giese, spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Ministry, stated that while peaceful protest is a fundamental right, the ongoing demonstrations in Albania are considered a domestic political issue.
During a public briefing, Martin Giese, spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Ministry, was asked whether Berlin is in contact with the protesters leading the ongoing demonstrations and whether the German government is aware of their demands. He was also asked what Germany expects from the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama in response to the protests.

Responding to questions from German media, Giese stated that peaceful protest is a fundamental right of citizens. However, he emphasized that the demonstrations are a matter of Albania's domestic political affairs.

The remarks come as the protest movement, now entering its fourth week, continues to draw attention both inside and outside Albania. Demonstrators have been calling for major political reforms, including the resignation of the current government and measures aimed at combating corruption and strengthening democratic institutions.

Germany's response signals support for the democratic right to protest while avoiding direct involvement in Albania's internal political developments.
