According to Osmani, this move would send a clear message that Kosovo is committed to strengthening its relationship with the U.S. "I am convinced that this step will open new opportunities for job creation, technology exchange, and long-term economic growth," Osmani stated on the social media platform X.

She further emphasized that beyond being an economic measure, this is a key foreign policy objective, reaffirming Kosovo’s steadfast commitment to its alliance with the U.S., built on shared values of freedom and decades-long support.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs on the country's trading partners, which are set to take effect at midnight on Thursday. During a press conference, Trump presented a graphic illustrating how China imposes a 67% tariff on U.S. goods, prompting the U.S. to respond with a 34% tariff on Chinese imports.

Kosovo is among the countries affected by these new U.S. tariffs, facing a 10% tariff on its exports to the U.S. Other regional countries included in the list are Albania (10%), Montenegro (10%), Serbia (37%), North Macedonia (33%), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (35%).

The request from President Osmani reflects Kosovo’s broader strategic interests in maintaining strong economic and diplomatic ties with the U.S., particularly in the face of shifting global trade policies.
