Former boxing champion of Albania Skënder Kurti loses the battle with the coronavirus

 After nearly two weeks in intensive care, Skënder Kurti lost the battle with coronavirus.

The former Albanian boxing champion, on March 23, passed away clinically and since that day doctors have been doing their best to keep him alive with the help of medical devices.

However, the 61-year-old failed, bringing to 21 the number of coronavirus victims in our country.

A loss, which makes the Albanian sport black, because after retiring from the ring, Kurti remained active in boxing, being for 30 years a great coach, where he led the team of Tirana and the Albanian national team.

The notification of the Ministry of Health

A 61-year-old citizen with the initials S.K., hospitalized for 20 days, in serious condition, intubated died today at the Infectious Diseases Hospital. Earlier, the 61-year-old from Tirana died clinically and his condition had worsened for several days.

Despite the efforts of the doctors of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in the intensive care unit, the 61-year-old who was suffering from hypertension has not managed to survive.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection expresses its condolences to the family of the deceased. The Ministry of Health urges citizens to continue to respect social distancing measures. It is equally important that infection control measures are strictly observed within family circles, avoiding visits to relatives for any reason, to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
