At least 156 North Macedonian citizens have joined terrorist groups, US report says

The US State Department released a report on terrorism worldwide yesterday, while the document states that North Macedonia is co-operating with the United States in its efforts to combat terrorism. The document also states that at least 156 North Macedonian citizens joined terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, 35 of whom were killed, about 38 remained there and 83 have returned to their home country.

"The biggest terrorist threat facing North Macedonia is the return of foreign fighters and the potential for radicalization and violence," the US State Department report reads.

The report also says that in August, North Macedonia returned to their homeland and arrested seven of its citizens arrested by the Syrian Democratic Forces, becoming one of the first countries to successfully do so and set an example for the rest of the world that need to be followed.
