Matthew Palmer: Russia wants chaos in Albania; the Opposition should participate in elections

During a meeting with journalists at the US Embassy in Tirana, the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe Matthew Palmer commented on the political situation in Albania. Asked about Russia's influence in the region, Palmer stated that "America requires transparency and cooperation between countries, while Russia seeks chaos. We want the region to have a future. Albania is a tough target for Russia."

While speaking about the opposition's decisions, he has said the latter should have their candidates and take part in the elections.

"The burning of the mandates by the Albanian Opposition is not a choice. It has the responsibility to run and will be a disaster if the opposition will not enter the election. The opposition should share its vision with sympathizers and compete with the strongest candidates and with an attractive platform," said Palmer.
