Albanian Father Kadri Mahmuti Reunites With Daughter After Decades Apart

A touching story about an Albanian father has captured attention in Germany after Kadri Mahmuti was finally reunited with his daughter following decades of separation.

Mahmuti became a father in Paris in 1979, when his daughter Hamide was born. Just two years later, however, his life took a different turn when Hamide’s mother decided to move to Portugal, leaving Kadri behind with the fear that he might never see his daughter again.

Decades passed, but Mahmuti never gave up hope of finding her.

After years of searching, he turned to the popular German television program “Bitte melde dich,” hosted by Julia Leischik. The SAT.1 program specializes in helping people reconnect with relatives and loved ones they have lost contact with.

The search eventually produced the moment Mahmuti had been waiting for: he found Hamide and was able to meet his daughter again after decades apart.

Their emotional reunion became part of the German television program, which regularly features stories of families separated by migration, life circumstances and lost contact.

For Mahmuti, a story that began with the fear of never seeing his daughter again ultimately ended with a reunion he had waited for for most of his life.
