War within the kind between Milan and Turin over 2026 Winter Olympics

2026 Olympics, war within the kind between Milan and Turin

Organizing the Olympic Games brings great benefits to a city from the point of view of infrastructure, image and benefits over a long wave of time. Precisely for this, the lobbying that includes business and politics does not exclude the war within the kind, as it was verified between the two Italian cities, Turin and Milan.

The Olympic Committee decided to formalize Milan and Cortina as places to invest in persuading the international arena to organize the 2026 edition. This is in full contrast to the initial idea, to apply as a potential winning candidate with the city of Turin, something that is splitting politicians under a flag and color.

"It's an incomprehensible candidacy, because there will be plants where there is nothing. Turin was the least costly option and who makes that decision should explain it to the people. The committee will make a vote on the options and evaluate the merits," said Chiara Appendino, mayor of Turin.

As to worsening even more the waters, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Luigi Di Maio said the government will not pay any euros for the Olympics, and this must be done by the candidate cities. The costs for organizing Winter Games go to at least 380 million of euros.
