Request for Albanian language to appear in the Constitution of Macedonia

Albanian opposition parties in Macedonia, as they have announced, will intervene with amendments to constitutional changes to advance according to them the legal position of Albanians in the country.

The Movement Besa of Bilall Kasami has already drafted four amendments that require for Albanians to be state-building factor, to have Albanian language designated as an official language and to remove the mark of a language spoken by over 20 percent of the Macdonian population.

It is also required to change the Article 49 of the Constitution so that there is no discrimination in the protection of other entities living abroad as well as Article 75 in order to find a way for the head of state to not block the laws that are adopted in the Assembly.

"The proposals that we give for the use of the Albanian language is something that all Albanian political subjects constantly say, we propose the preamble issue as a version that offers a concept that is closer to the social reality that we have in RM" says Fadil Zendeli, a member of the Besa Movement.

Intervention with amendments has been announced also by the Alliance for Albanians (AfA). Its head Zijadin Sela demands that the amendments be supported by other parties in order to reach a constitution that will promote rights rather than sanction them.

"Our plan and strategy is for amendments to pass and constitutional changes be right. The Constitution promotes rights and freedoms rather than sanctions. That is the idea of AfA because only in this way makes sense for the country's membership in NATO and the EU," said Ziadin Sela, chairman of the Alliance for Albanians, Alsat reports.
