Mafia bosses will no longer run from jail their criminal organisations. The Albanian government is implementing the Italian model 41 Bis to further strengthen security in high security prisons.
Teuta Vodo, Deputy Minister of Justice, during an interview to the Albanian Telegraphic Agency, announced that the Albanian government is planning to amend the law on prison security for detainees serving high-security prisons."All prisoners involved in criminal groups or detained as part of terrorist groups considered as pose high-risk will be subject to different austerity measures than the existing ones. As for this this decision, it is about an operating room that will be centralized, which will monitor all prisons. Will begin in the jails of high security and will then extend to 24 other institutions. The main purpose is to be able to limit all external communications that prisoners and pre-detainees with a high risk have towards the public. Visits will be monitored, checked. This innovation provides limited number of external communication calls. For such categories there will be limited measures, one call per month or no call at all, a maximum duration of 10 minutes, and everything will be monitored," Deputy Minister Vodo told to ATSH.
"It's the 41 Bis model, the Italian model that inspired us. This model was proposed in 1975, but was implemented in 1992 by Minister Martelli. That was because in July of that year happened the assassination attempted against prosecutor Borselino, who challenged the mafiosi. This model brought and removed that year of over 50 prisoners in another prison on the island to be monitored," Vodo said.
"This change we want to bring to the Albanian prisons is intended to prevent the Mafia boss from running their criminal activity while in jail, but to be monitored all the time," Vodo underlined.
