Meta meets UN Secretary António Guterres, expressing Albania's intention to be a member of the SC

 During the proceedings of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, the President of Albania, Ilir Meta, was received at a special meeting by UN General Secretary António Guterres.

President Meta praised once again Mr. Guterres' leadership in his efforts to reform the United Nations Organization and advance the Agenda 2030.

He assured Secretary Guterres that Albania remains loyal to the fundamental principles of the Organization and supports preventative diplomacy in the interests of peace, security, sustainable economic development and protection of human rights.

President Meta underlined Albania's national goal of strengthening regional co-operation and EU membership. He also expressed the aspiration of Albania to become a member of the UN Security Council for the period 2022-2023

"Albania is playing an important and constructive role in the region and its ambition to be a member of the Security Council for the years 2022-2023 will be a continuation of its contribution to the peace and regional and global security of peace and a representative voice of our region in this important organization," said Meta.

The Secretary Guterres praised also Albania's role in the region and assured President Meta for supporting development projects in Albania and the region.
