US modernizes in maximum Albanian border checkpoints; big problem for internationally wanted persons

The United States will assist the Albanian authorities in border checkpoints, maximizing thus the control and security to identifying and capturing any person who has problems with law inside or outside of Albania.

A draft agreement between Albania and the Government of the United States of America has been submitted to the Albanian Parliament for the installation and use of the PISCES system for cross-border checkpoints.

The agreement provides for the US to install a new system for monitoring the movement of passengers at border checkpoints.

The PISCES system will be installed initially at Tirana International Airport.

In addition, the installation of the PISC system will be expanded at airports or other border checkpoints designated by the authorities of the Republic of Albania, in cooperation with the relevant authorities of the United States of America. The new system adds some security control elements at the border crossing points.

The main element is that of biometric data which will also identify difficult cases to be discovered through the current system.

Also, installing this system will be accompanied by an infrastructure upgrade, providing every employee with a computer, document reader, fingerprint reader, face control camera.

This data will be compared to the Interpol and FBI registers, giving priority to detecting and detaining internationally wanted persons.

The US government aims to contribute to the preparation of the infrastructure provided by the Albanian government necessary for PISCES installation and operation on an ongoing basis.
