Habilaj brothers properties sequestered

Is executed the decision taken by the Vlora Court relating to preventive sequestration of some properties of Habilaj brothers and their associates.

The decision was taken after the Habilaj group was accused of being part of an Italian organization that trafficked marijuana to Italy. Moisi Habilaj is arrested a few weeks ago during an operation in Catania, Italy, which led to the crackdown of the organization. The other two brothers were declared wanted.

Three service units and three apartments have been sequestred in the city of Vlora, while according to the authorities the investigations are ongoing to identify other assets suspected of being subjected to criminal activities.

The demolition of the group by Italians induced strong controversy in Albanian politics due to the kinship of Habilaj brothers with former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri. The prosecution demanded from the parliament the authorization for the arrest of Mr. Tahiri but most dismissed this demand "for lack of evidence" according to them.

Last week the judicial police officers exercised control in Mr Tahiri's apartment, and later he was summoned to the Prosecution for questioning.
