Meet the first Albanian Hospital, dating back to 1831

  In 1831, the first Albanian Hospital became operational in the city of Shkodra.

This Hospital was originally in the service of the Turkish Army, and was the first hospital in Shkodra but also all over Albania. 

The hospital was located at Ajasma neighborhood, and had a capacity of 80 beds placed in two halls. Later in 1850-1860 the hospital was transferred from the Ajasma to the Partizani neighborhood.

The new hospital building was large in two storeys, on the first floor there was the ambulance, pharmacy, directorate and administration, in the floor had rooms for the sick, where 200 beds were normally placed, this capacity was always increasing as high as in the first ten years of XX century its capacity reached 300 beds.

It was equipped with an operating room, carrying out all kinds of operations, there were autoclaves, sterilizers. The hospital existed until 1916, when was damaged by the Serbs, and the Austro-Hungarians converted it to a warehouse./Oculus News
