Montenegro's Parliament on Thursday voted to amend the Law on Territorial Organization by which Tuzi will be a full rights independent municipality, like all other municipalities of Montenegro.

Changes in the law also envisage the formation of the Organizational Council. The task of this council will be the organization of relations with other municipalities, territorial restraint and division of wealth. The new Law on Territorial Organization enters into force on September 1, 2018.

The full commune of Tuzi was the basic request filed by the coalition "Established Albanians" in the agreement on co-governance with the Socialist Democratic Party of Montenegro, signed in November last year.

The Independent Commune of Tuzi was among the first demands of the beginnings of pluralism in Montenegro by Albanian political parties, which have repeatedly demanded that the Albanian-majority Malësia region receive status as all other municipalities in Montenegro.

The Municipality of Tuz until now operated as a Urban Commune under the supervision and management of the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica.

Analysts estimate that the Highland possesses sufficient capacities and resources to act as an independent municipality. With the step of decentralizing the power of Tuzi in Highland, they believe that the Commune will function more efficiently by respecting the right of self-determination for the Albanian community in Montenegro./Oculus News
